Skilled Woodworker Vacancies

 

We have positions for Woodworkers in our Workshop. Our operation is multi-disciplined and traditionally orientated and therefore the persons we would like to take on board would be primarily open, honest, friendly, a team player and professional. In addition a keen eye for detail and pride in one’s work is a must.

Hereunder are some of the Skills needed so that only persons who are truly orientated in Custom Woodworks, Cabinet and Aperture manufacture need apply.

 

  • Ability to read in English and understand information and ideas both in writing and on plans and sketches.

 

  • Knowledge and recognition of commonly used timber in the trade.

 

  • Ability to set and operate a variety of woodworking machines such as Panel Cutters, Planers, 2-P Moulder, Calibrator and other workshop machines.

 

  • Knowledge and use of the many various power and hand tools needed in woodworking.

 

  • Determining the machines, tools and equipment needed for a particular job.

 

  • Ability to trim and prepare work pieces for finishing using a variety of tools and materials such as scrapers, spoke shaves, fillers and stains to match the wood, sanding with the correct sanders and grits to ensure ‘0’ tolerance blemishes.

 

  • Knowledge and ability to fit and install hardware, such as hinges, drawer pulls, locks and so on.

 

  • Knowledge and ability to repair and or alter wooden furniture and apertures.

 

  • Ability to install and carry out site work as is necessary.

 

  • Be of a pleasant and polite disposition when dealing the clients.

 

The job is based on a 40 hour 5 day week. For foreign applicants, we will not cover any expenses for travel and accommodation in Malta; however we shall assist with locating suitable accommodation. A trial period of two weeks would suffice in knowing whether a person is capable for the job further which during the Probationary Period we could ascertain his level. The normal Maltese Woodworking Employment Regulations would then come into force. Upon request we shall forward a copy of the Conditions of Employment, based on an indefinite period of employment, the Woodworks Wages Council Regulation order updated 01.01.2012.

 

In addition, we would require a Police Conduct Certificate, and after the probationary period, the new employee would be required to provide his own basic hand and power tools. Wages are to be discussed after selection, and rates agreed upon would be confirmed after the initial two week trial.
